plasticGone with the wind: Happy New Year! We hope you have been weathering our rough winter weather. Unfortunately, this month’s Polar Vortex shredded the plastic on our largest greenhouse and froze about half of the plants growing within. These large climatic events can really take a toll; we lost the same greenhouse cover during Hurricane Sandy. But a new gigantic cover was soon hauled up and over the frame, and baby greens will be growing before long.

Fortunately our root cellars are quite weatherproof, and the roots have been safe and sound. And speaking of great root cellars, our own farmer Judy presented a workshop about them at the annual Northeast Organic Farming Association-NJ Winter Conference this month, sharing her knowledge and experience with gardeners and farmers from throughout the state.

Theatre in the fields: Creative dynamos Whitney Shields and Katie MacGhee, our former apprentice, are writing and directing an original theatre piece about our farm. The interviews they have recorded with various folks will serve as a basis for the script. After rehearsals with four local actors, they will hold a performance on the land in the spring! Watch the stunning short videos here and here about their project. Stay tuned for the performance date in April.
