The Foodshed Alliance and the Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm are joining with Roy’s Hall to bring Susan Werner to the stage on Saturday, October 8, at 8 p.m.

Susan is a singer/songwriter of boundless versatility, equally at home on guitar or piano. Her distinctive and highly crafted songwriting is liberally dosed with pockets of humor, wit, heartbreak, incisive social commentary and kick-ass rowdiness.

Dubbed by NPR as the “Empress of the Unexpected,” Susan pays tribute to American agriculture and to her Iowa farm roots with her latest recording, Hayseed. She keeps her audiences guessing and laughing simultaneously, lending her wry humor and passionate voice to subjects such as farmer’s markets, agro-chemicals, climate change, drought, longing for a sense of place, and the movement towards sustainable agriculture. The characters and perspectives are varied and colorful, the lyrics are sharp as thistles, the music is handmade and hoppin’, and with Hayseed Werner continues her reign as one of the most bold and creative forces on the acoustic music scene today.

“It’s not enough to say she’s a brilliant, spectacular performer. She is pure genius in capturing the human experience and setting it to music. She’s also a chameleon, slipping seamlessly between cabaret, folk, gospel, classical and the blues.”
