Members and friends, we are so happy to invite you to celebrate our beloved Smadar, and all she’s done for our farm community.
In our early days, Smadar joined as a member and soon fell in love with the work and the mission. Soon after, she joined the farm team and played an integral role through 2025. For many of those years, Smadar was the unofficial “face” of the farm to our members and our community. Her ability to relate to members, remember their stories and struggles without judgement, and her willingness to accommodate individual needs and preferences made her instrumental to our work.
Smadar has welcomed and cared for so many as they entered our Garden House, and her kindness and open heart made the farm feel like a safe and warm place, even through her personal tough times. Smadar has a special connection with children, and she saw each child that stepped onto the farm for the light within them, often reminding us that the real work of the farm was stewarding the land for future generations.
This past year, Smadar stepped away from the farm in order to tend to her husband, Joe, as his full-time caregiver.
We will gather to honor Smadar on Saturday, April 18 from 2-5pm for a potluck of finger foods, appetizers, desserts, and snacks. If you’d like, bring something to share, maybe including a written “Smadar Story” to add to a special box. We will gather in a circle to honor and sing songs (as Smadar loves to do).
Hoping to see you there!
