One of the oldest and most respected CSAs in the country is seeking apprentices for its 2024 season. Our CSA biodynamically manages more than 125 acres on preserved farmland in northwestern New Jersey near the Delaware Water Gap. There are 20 acres in production, which includes vegetables, berries, fruits, flowers and grain.
The CSG at Genesis Farm has offered an Apprenticeship Program since 1998. Applicants for the Apprenticeship Program should be seeking a hands-on learning experience on a production-oriented farm for a full season: from April through November. Good physical condition and pleasant attitude are required. Candidates should have a willingness to learn organic, sustainable and biodynamic farming methods. We offer apprentices their own room and board, stipend, shared lunches, educational opportunities, and involvement in farm events in exchange for 50 hours of work per week. Apprenticeship housing is in an old farmhouse on the farm. It is recommended that applicants visit the farm to evaluate the suitability of the position.
Apprentices will learn about a year-round CSA, how to grow and maintain a diverse variety of vegetables, and how to steward the land with sustainable farming practices. They will also gain opportunities in community events and workshops. In our program, we strive to teach good work habits so apprentices feel confident to discern their future in farming.
For a deeper dive into the details of the apprenticeship program, you are invited to review the Apprentice Handbook.
We have seen the importance of the apprenticeship program and understand that some candidates are not able to make the commitment to a full growing season. The CSG offers a 10-week option to open possibilities for college students and others who want a taste of the apprentice experience.
